White growth on bottom of bed?
My boyfriend has a bedroom that is down in the basement. Yesterday I smelled urine. But obviously he didn't pee down there. He said that it's the bed and lifted it up. On the underneath of his bed pad, was white growth. All over it. He has a futon, so its not a mattress, just a pad type thing.
What is this white stuff?? Can it be harmfull when its ingested?
the "white stuff" is actually a mold, which is thriving and growing on the pad due to the high moisture present in any cellar (basement) floor. you need to get rid of the pad, the mattress,and destroy them, and get the next unit OFF THE FLOOR! molds and mildew pose a serious health risk, and when inhaled, breathed in, ingested, whatever, can cause respiratory and other problems.. those with allergies and/or asthma should be especially careful. apparently there is no or inadequate ventilation in the area he sleeps in, and he should find a DRY and ventilated space for his "bed". the pad is literally absorbing the moisture from the floor, creating a perfect environment for the mold to grow. he'll need to get something to kill the mold on the floor, and then seal the area. but he really needs to get OUT of the basement.......right away.
