I bought a mattress with memory foam inside the first layer, and, how do I get rid of the offgas?
I bought a mattress with memory foam inside the first layer. I bought it used, so I can't return it... I mean, it's wonderful, it had been airing out on the floor for around a year, but the smell seems to be hard to cover up (I bought a mattress protector to cover up the smell, perhaps I bought the "wrong one"? I also got a mattress pad, but it's not enough to cover up the smell either... I also put a blanket over it...
What I was thinking, is, with my last mattress, using non- chlorine bleach with water on a cloth, helped with the smell, but this mattress looks more porous? Wouldn't it damage it to use this, then?
Also, the only other thing I used was Febreeze... ( I had to use the nc bleach to get rid of the Febreeze smell, too...).
Should I get a better mattress pad or a latex topper or something?
Any ideas on any of the above or suggestions on them is welcome...
Thanks!
Sadly it sounds like the chemicals used in the manufacturing process are here to stay in your mattress. It doesn't matter how much n/c bleach or Febreeze you put on it, you won't get rid of the smell (and you may ruin the mattress) Sorry!! ![]()
You can buy a thick Plastic Mattress Cover that completely encases the mattress and zips up, this might be your best bet. Then you can buy a topper, put on some nice bedding and hopefully the smell won't come through.
Good luck!
